Dan McGeehan is an artist and digital illustrator known for his whimsical, fun, and colorful style.

With over four decades experience, he works with an international set of clients. His illustrations are featured in a variety of magazines, advertisements, and children’s books; with commissions from numerous well-known publishing firms, including Highlights for Children Magazine, Weekly Reader, Disney Publications, Sports Illustrated, Brown Publishing, Harcourt Brace, Cambridge University Press, McGraw-Hill, Klutz Books, Me+Mi Publishing, Folio Magazine, and many more.

 

Dan is particularly known for his work in children’s books, where his lively illustrations bring stories to life. These include, Charlotte and Penelope and their Magical Menagerie, and its sequel, Charlotte and Penelope and the Neighborhood Stage, “Bumpy Horsey,” The “Language Rules!” series by Ann Heinrichs, The “Idioms” series by Arnold Ringstad, and the award-winning Poppy Through the Paintings.

 

In addition to his illustration work, Dan is deeply involved in several aspects of live theater. As an actor, Dan studied at the acclaimed Arden Theatre in Philadelphia, and performed professionally in that city and in Chicago. He acted several major roles in productions such as “The Brothers Karamazov,” “Twelfth Night,” “As You Like It,” “Noises Off!,” “Every Man in His Humour,” and as the title role(s) in “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.” 

Dan continues to work with Tulsa Ballet in many capacities, as author of scripts and scenarios to many productions, as well as acting in character roles for the great story ballets (Lorenzo in “Don Quixote,” Catalabutte in “The Sleeping Beauty,” Uncle Henry in “Dorothy and the Prince of Oz,” and Maître d’Chez Maxim in “The Merry Widow.”)

 

Dan has directed several stage productions for various regional theaters, from a variety of Shakespeare’s plays (“The Taming of the Shrew,” “Hamlet,” “Twelfth Night,” and “Romeo and Juliet”) to more contemporary fare (“The Woolgatherer,” “O’ I Got Somethin’ to Say Alright,” “The Glass Menagerie,” and “The Who’s Tommy).

 

He is the author of several short plays that have been performed to international acclaim, including “The Rosebird” and “Such Dreams as Stuff is Made On.” Dan’s best-known work is “A Long Trip" which received multiple awards and the recognition as one of the most performed short scripts in the nation. In recent years, Dan adapted “A Long Trip” into an opera with music by Jordan Kuspa. It received its world premiere at the Boston Opera Collaborative to excellent reviews.

 

Dan has composed music for most of his life, the first being a short piece for piano written at the age of six. Since then, he has written several pieces for private use, mostly for piano.
